How to Give Yourselves Some LOVE When You Need It

It’s inevitable for humans to feel a bit depressed, lonely or in a desperate need for someone to show us some love and affection from time to time. Well, what can we possibly do when you’re single and that happens? It’s not like there’s someone there to give you a hug and lift up your spirits. Or is there? Yes, there is. And that someone is YOU. Here’s how you can supply yourself with all the love you require in your time of need.

Spend Some Time in Nature

You might ask what exactly does nature have to do with love. Well, the answer is – EVERYTHING! Loving and enjoying nature is loving and enjoying life, as nature is the ultimate expression of this magnificent and mysterious thing called life. By connecting with nature, and there are some very simple ways to do that, you connect back with your inner-self and with the universe, and feel that oneness we seem to have forgotten in the Western world. You can spend some time at the local park, walking with your bare feet on the grass. You can take a walk at the nearest beach, feeling the sand and the breeze touch your body. You can hug your favorite tree if it makes you feel good, why not? Nature can be found everywhere around us, and it’s always there to ground us and remind us we’re still connected.

Write Down a Letter to Yourself (or Others)

What is it that you want to hear most of all when you’re feeling lonely? What words do you crave or hope for someone to say to you so that you’d feel better? If you know the answer, then all you have left to do is write it down. Whether it is meant for your eyes only, or perhaps you’re feeling particularly brave and want to give it to a stranger, the point is to give love in order to receive it. You might be surprised at how well this can work for you and make you feel a lot better.

Love Yourself

At first you might think – but I do love myself, obviously. Who doesn’t? Well, it turns out that a lot of us often behave in not-so-loving ways towards ourselves, despite our firm belief that we do indeed love ourselves dearly. We constantly criticize ourselves, feeling we should have or could have done things differently, dwell on past mistakes, and often feel incompetent and unworthy. If that’s the case, how can we possibly expect someone else to love us? One of the best things you can do for yourself is very simple and basic – just be kind to yourself. Is doesn’t sound like too much to ask, but in truth it’s a lot more challenging than we might initially think. Try it for just one day as a start. One day in which you only say to yourself kind words, in which you don’t get angry at yourself or judge our thoughts and actions. One day in which you’ll be as nice to yourself as you wish others will be to you. Try it and see what happens. You might just feel a whole lot better about yourself.
